Amongst other attributes, currencies have historically displayed low correlation with more traditional asset classes, such as stocks or bonds. Moreover, they offer potential profit opportunities given the dynamic nature of economic activity, interest rates and capital flows between regions and countries. As a result, currencies can be considered as a unique asset class which can improve the return-risk tradeoff of an investment portfolio.
